The history of the Bina Swadaya Nusantara Cooperative is quite long. Starting in the 1970-1987 period, which assisted the poor through the development of self-help groups (KSM) and encouraged the birth of the TSK (Savings Setia Kawan) and KSK (Kredit Setia Kawan) programs. Furthermore, in the period 1988, this microfinance program encouraged and gave birth to a bank-group relationship project (PHBK). Thus, KSM can access services from banks with a joint responsibility system.

However, the monetary crisis that hit Indonesia in 1997 forced banks to stop providing credit services for the PHBK scheme unilaterally. Therefore, in 1998 the Mandiri Community Development Cooperative (BMM) was established, to be precise on October 28, 1998. In the 2002 period, a Microfinance Service Center (PPKM) was established which adopted the Bangladesh ASA (Association for Social Advancement) system. It was transformed into a cooperative legal entity into the Bina Swadaya Nusantara Cooperative (KBSN) on October 7, 2011.

Now, KBSN has 9 branches throughout Indonesia consisting of 2 DKI Jakarta branches (Johar Baru and Milling), 3 West Java branches (Gunung Putri, Cikarang, and Bandung), 1 Central Java branch (Pekalongan), and 3 Java branches. East (Mojosari, Pandaan, and Trawas). KBSN serves 361 groups, the number of savers is 6,038 people with a value of IDR 2,170,600,000, and borrowers are 4,728 people with a value of IDR 6,635,458,000.
